Conference Proposal
Types of Presentations
  • Practice Sessions: Practice sessions are 60-minute sessions focused on the practice of instruction. All practice sessions must be interactive. These sessions may involve some presenter talk (≈ 20 minutes), but should emphasize participant interaction (≈ 40 minutes). Practice sessions that appear to consist of all presenter talk will not be accepted.
  • Panel Sessions: Panel sessions consist of a number of presenters each having a few minutes to introduce their work/project (≈ 20 minutes). The bulk of the session time (≈ 40 minutes) should be moderated Q & A where the moderator curates questions from the chat. Panel sessions that appear to consist of all presenter talk will not be accepted.
  • Research Sessions: Research sessions are 30-minutes sessions involving research focused on higher education instruction. Research sessions must allow time (≈ 10 minutes) for Q & A.
  • Poster Sessions: Poster sessions consist of a graphic one-PowerPoint-static-slide poster (participants can click on the poster to see a larger image of the slide), with presenters occupying their own Zoom room. Participants may click on a “Discussion” button to enter the presenter’s Zoom room to chat.

Proposal Components
Proposals consist of several main components, plus presenter information. The five proposal components include proposal title, proposal type, proposal abstract, proposal information, and proposal keywords.
  • Proposal Title: The proposal title should be clear, concise, and descriptive of the proposal content. The title should motivate interested participants to attend.
  • Proposal Type: There are three proposal types: Practice Sessions, Research Sessions, and Poster Sessions. The appropriate proposal type should be selected and the Proposal Information section should reflect this type.
  • Proposal Abstract: The proposal abstract should be no longer than 50 words and should address the content, interactivity, and application of the proposal focus.
  • Proposal Information: The proposal information should include five subsections: objectives, audience, activities, summary, and citations. Details on each of these sections is available under the Proposal Information section below.
  • Proposal Keywords: The proposal keywords should include 3-5 keywords that best describe the content, interactivity, and/or application of the proposal focus.
Proposal Information
The Proposal Information section of the Proposal Components should include five sections: Objectives, Audience, Activities, Summary, and Citations. Please use sub-headers in your proposal.
  • Objectives: The objectives should include 2-4 objectives that describe what participants should learn (e.g., knowledge, skills, attitudes) from attending the session.
  • Audience: The audience should address to which audiences the session is focused, for example, new or experienced faculty, faculty and instructional developers, or graduate students.
  • Activities: The activities should indicate how interactivity will be fostered in the session. Interactivity in the Poster Sessions will consist of the discussion between the presenter and the participants.
  • Summary: The summary should be comprised of a short literature review indicating the issue(s) and foundational concepts addressed, a description of concepts, strategies, or processes to be addressed in the session, and the impacts, findings, or applications to be discussed.
