The “Actively Absent” Student: Strategies for Complete Course Engagement

In this session, participants will learn how to support students who display unconventional forms of course engagement. I use a term, “actively absent student” to describe students who attend class regularly, participate fully when there, but fail to complete assessments in a timely manner, if at all. In the face of new forms of teaching due to the pandemic, participants will learn several strategies to help reach these students to ensure a successful outcome in the course. Participants will also learn strategies that can support ALL students’ engagement and activity in their courses.
